About Dr. Orna Izakson

Naturopathic doctor and integrative sleep specialist

Dr. Orna Izakson is a licensed naturopathic physician and registered herbalist with more than 20 years of experience of supporting sleep, mental health, women’s health, chronic disease and overall wellness. Her practice is grounded in evidence-based approaches, traditional clinical experience and public health recommendations, with treatment tailored to individual patient needs.

She has advanced training in cognitive-behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) and circadian sleep-wake disorders through Stanford University’s Sleep Health and Insomnia Program (SHIP). Dr. Izakson also completed a functional psychiatry fellowship through Psychiatry Redefined, where she now serves as faculty.

Before starting her medical career, Dr. Izakson was an award-winning environmental journalist whose work appeared in publications across the country. She uses those skills in medical practice to help patients understand the underlying mechanics of their health concerns, empowering them as experts of their own experience.

Dr. Izakson earned her doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine from National College (now University) of Natural Medicine, her BA from Wesleyan University, and her MA from the University of Missouri Graduate School of Journalism. She holds naturopathic licenses in Connecticut, Oregon and Alaska.

She served for six years as lead physician of the Traditional Roots Institute at National University of Natural Medicine, helping train hundreds of providers in the practical and profound uses of herbal medicine. She is a past member of the Gaia Herbs science advisory board and in 2024 founded the Naturopathic Climate Alliance.

An avid photographer since childhood, she can often be found sprawled by the side of the road with her camera lens set uncomfortably close to an interesting flower.
