Dr. Sharpe is a board-certified physician with 25 years in practice in both emergency medicine and functional medicine. She has had the privilege of treating thousands of patients and is passionate about preventative medicine, health management, and emergency services. She is a TEDx speaker, author and medical missionary.
Born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Dr. Sharpe knew at an early age that she wanted to be a physician. Her mother became a registered nurse during the time that it was nearly impossible for African American women to become doctors. As she began to show a keen interest in the sciences and medicine in grade school, medicine became a logical choice. Dr. Sharpe earned her undergraduate degree from Boston University and medical degree from Chicago Medical School / Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science. Later, she moved to Florida where she completed an internship in internal medicine and a residency in emergency medicine.
Multiple family members struggled with metabolic disease, which was most evident in her father, who had 13 documented heart attacks. He later became a bilateral amputee secondary to complications of diabetes. His illness, combined with her interest in extending her practice of medicine beyond what was learned in her allopathic training, led Dr. Sharpe to functional medicine. Through her training with The Institute for Functional Medicine and The American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine, she has developed a focus on metabolic disease along with cognitive health and neurodegenerative diseases.
“My holistic methodology integrates conventional medicine with functional medicine strategies to optimize overall health. Considering factors such as hormonal balance, nutrition, stress management, sleep, and exercise, can significantly impact cognitive function, mood stability, weight loss and overall health. Patients receive tailored care plans that address their unique health needs and goals, ensuring a comprehensive strategy for enhancing energy, increasing weight loss, eliminating brain fog and improving chronic disease states.”
